Arts, Media, and Entertainment Sector

The Arts, Media and Entertainment (AME) Career Technical Education (CTE) programs prepare high school students to enter California's thriving creative economy. The California Department of Education established the Arts, Media, and Entertainment industry sector in 2005, and AME has grown to serve 231,000 students and becomes the largest CTE industry sector in the state of California.

Video Game Design Exploration


This course will integrate academic and technical preparation, focus on career awareness, career exploration, and skill preparation for the Games and Simulations industry. Students will learn all aspects of designing a video game including: design process, basic programming, graphic arts, sound and music production, project management, working as part of a design and engineering team, and building 2D platform games.

Video Game Design and Art I

This course is designed to develop foundational game design knowledge and understanding through academic integration and technical preparation with a focus on providing students in-depth and advanced instruction and hands-on experience pertaining to the development of video games with a special emphasis on coding. Areas of study include career exploration, designing a video game, design process, basic programming, graphic arts, sound and music production, project management, working as a part of a design and engineering team, and building 2D platform games. Students will complete both individual and team game production assignments, learning sequencing and engaging in critical thinking, problem solving, and teamwork while developing games and exploring the process.

Video Game Design and Art II

This course builds upon the skills students have attained in Video Game Design I. Students will create games at higher technical and aesthetic levels and move them from 2D into 3D game development. Cutting edge technology is used with creativity to help student's development engaging games using C# programming language. Group based projects will prepare students for the communication and collaboration needed for current field expectations.
